Sewing On Ribbons

This page is for the dancer who wishes to sew the ribbons.

Remember that correctly fitting pointe shoes will save your feet.

 STAGE 1

Take a pointe shoe and 2.5m of ribbon.

Use 1-inch (2.5cm) wide non-slip nylon ribbon, which should be sold in 2.5m lengths.

 STAGE 2

Fold the heel piece of the pointe shoe down towards the inner sole.

 STAGE 3

Take a pencil and draw a line along the inside of the folds, using the fold as a guide

 STAGE 4

Fold the heelpiece inside out to reveal the lines. The ribbon will be sewn in between the blue line and the sole of the shoe.

 STAGE 5

Cut the 2.5m ribbon in half and then fold in half.

 STAGE 6

Line the fold up with the centre seam of the heelpiece.

Place the ribbon between the drawn line and the sole of the shoe.

 STAGE 7

Start sewing the ribbon from the centre seam along the top edge to the binding of the pointe shoe,

Then stitch along the binding and across the width of the ribbon,

Then back along the bottom edge of the ribbon and up to the sole of the pointe shoe, leaving the ribbon unstitched as it stretches across the sole of the shoe.

Then repeat the sewing on the other side of the pointe shoe in the same way.
